Classic plane that flew between Newcastle Airport and Heathrow to be restored

Posted on February 3rd, 2010

A classic plane in British aviation may be making its way back to Sunderland over the next two years. The Trident Jet, made by Hawker Siddeley could regularly be seen flying between Newcastle Airport and London Heathrow until they were phased out and replaced by more modern aircraft.

The Trident was built to meet the requirements of the then British Airways, BEA (British European Airways) and was distinctive in its design. Only 3 remain today at Durham Tees Valley Airport and one enthusiast wants to move one of those to Sunderland at the North East Aircraft Museum. The project will be an expensive one as the aircraft needs to be broken down, transported and rebuilt however a group of six aviation enthusiasts are hoping to do just that.

If you are travelling from Newcastle Airport on a slightly more modern plane have a look at our Newcastle Airport Parking rates.
