Collapse of holiday firm leaves passengers unable to fly out from Newcastle Airport
Posted on December 21st, 2009
The collapse of a holiday firm has left some passengers, flying out of Newcastle Airport looking for winter sun, distraught.
About 70 passengers were flying to Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt for a Christmas break on Saturday but were not able to fly due to the collapse of Allbury Travel Group which traded through Libra Holidays, JetLife and Argo Holidays. The group went into administration.
Some passengers found out before they made the journey to the airport but others arrived with no idea they wouldn’t be able to fly.
A spokesperson for Newcastle Airport said: “Fingers crossed some got the message before they got to the airport. We’re terribly sorry that customers flying from Newcastle have had their travel plans disrupted. It must be absolutely heartbreaking, especially at Christmas when you are wanting to get away.”
The airport is advising people who were booked to fly from Newcastle Airport to contact ABTA Ltd (formerly the Association of British Travel Agents).
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is also telling people with bookings not to go to the airport, but to submit a claim to the CAA. Claim forms are available on the ATOL website at www.atol.org.ukĀ and Allbury customers can get more information on 0844 856 2585.
