Eastern Airways adds to Newcastle Airport portfolio

Posted on October 2nd, 2009

Eastern Airways is restoring Newcastle’s links with Bergen in Norway when it’s flights to there launch on Monday 5th October. The travel links were severed when the ferry linking these two cities was withdrawn last year however the introduction of this route underlines the airlines commitment to Newcastle Airport and it’s routes to Norway.

Newcastle is actually twinned with this Norwegian city and Newcastle’s Lord Mayor is travelling on the first flight to mark the occasion. Bergen provide Newcastle with a Christmas tree every year.

Eastern Airways will run a daily service to and from Bergen. The flight leaves Newcastle at 10:30am arriving in Bergen at 13:35pm and will depart Bergen at 14:30pm arriving back in Newcastle at 15:35pm.

Bergen is a great Norwegian city and is Norway’s 2nd largest city. It offers a gateway to the famous fjords and prices start from £89 one way which is a great deal.

Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways’ chief operating officer, said: “The strong links between Newcastle and Bergen go back many years. The re-joining of these twin cities with our new service is of great importance to both regions.

“Our non-stop service will not only benefit business travellers, particularly with Bergen’s busy heliport serving the oil, gas and subsea sector, but also leisure travellers taking short breaks in Bergen and the north east.”

Eastern Airways is Newcastle’s most punctual scheduled airline and Chris Sanders, Newcastle International Airport’s head of aviation development, said: “We offer a comprehensive network of world-wide routes from Newcastle and we’re delighted that Eastern Airways has restored this important Norwegian link to Bergen.

“Trade and tourism has always been strong between our two regions and the introduction of this frequent service from Newcastle is great news for the north east.”

There are some great Norwegian businesses looking to expand into the North East and this flight will offer great prospects for the region. For people travelling from Bergen to Newcastle on business there are some great Newcastle Airport Hotels to use.

Newcastle Airport is one of Eastern Airways main hubs and passengers flying from other UK airports such as Birmingham, Cardiff and Southampton services into Newcastle can connect onto the new Bergen service.
