Young gymnasts from Newcastle returned home via Newcastle International Airport triumphant after competing in the the European Gymnast championships in Portugal.
The club had several of it’s gymnasts crowned European champions as well as some great runners up and other places. They were given a great reception when they returned to Newcastle Airport from friends and family and Debby Said, the club’s head coach, said: “When Ian and Victoria called home with the good news about winning the gold, there were tears of joy all around.
“Everyone was celebrating, and it was fantastic to see them arrive home with their faces beaming and their well-deserved medals. We are all overjoyed at the results.
“The gymnasts went through a gruelling selection process to gain places in the Great Britain team. They have worked hard, and we are so proud of them all.
“We must also say a very well done to Hugh, who had a really good result in the mixed pair category, considering he’d only just recovered from a serious elbow injury.”
South Shields MP David Miliband added: “I would like to offer my warm congratulations to the club. The gymnasts have shown what hard work and dedication can achieve.”
