Posted on July 13th, 2009

Emirates, one of Newcastle Airport’s longhaul carriers celebrated a significant milestone recently. The carried the 250,000th passenger from this ever popular north east airport.

Peter Roeves, the landmark passenger, was travelling to Dubai and then onto Perth to visit family. Being able to fly from Newcastle Airport to Dubai and onto Perth made his journey so much easier than when he had to travel down to London Heathrow.

Emirates launched their daily service to Dubai from Newcastle Airport back in September 2007 and has proved popular with customers from the North East travelling to the Middle East and onto other destinations served by Emirates.

A quarter of a million passengers in less than 2 years is a significant achievement by Emirates and proves that Newcastle Airport is the main hub of the North East. Emirates have also recently launched a promotion at Newcastle Airport offering economy fares which include an automatic upgrade to business class.
