X Factor winner, Joe McElderry, returns to North East

Posted on December 17th, 2009

X Factor winner Joe McElderry returned to the North East today for the first time since being crowned the X Factor winner. He was greeted by a crowd of over 3000 as it flew into Newcastle Airport. Joe said: “It’s really strange, totally surreal.

“I can’t believe people would be waiting for me. I have nothing to ask for Christmas now – this is the only present I ever wanted.”

After landing at Newcastle Airport, Joe went on to HMV in South Shields to sign CD’s for his fans. His dad Jim said: “I’ve been outside in the rain with everyone. People were shouting ‘Joe’s dad’ at me. I will always be Joe’s dad now. I couldn’t be more proud.”

Mum Eileen Joyce said: “He’s the town’s adopted son now. It’s a dream come true for all of us.”
